Academic Support Program

Goals of Academic Support

To provide instructional support to Below Grade Level and Level 1 Students at "time of need".  These services will be provided before, during or after school to eligible students to provide support/remediation.  NOTE:  Science ASP can only occur before, after or outside of school hours.

Criteria for Students

Reading and Mathematics

  • Grade 3 students at Level 1 Reading FCAT score (3rd grade students are priority).
  • Lowest 25% in reading, lowest 25% in mathematics.
  • K-6 students identified as deficient in reading or mathematics.


  • Students in grade 6 or retained in grade 5 scoring below 300 on FCAT Science (Priority)Students in grade 5 who display deficiencies in science.

Scope of Program

  • After the student has been identified:
    • The classroom teacher initiates the Progress Monitoring Plan (PMP), makes instructional recommendations, then approves recommended activities, materials and assessments to the ASP teacher.
    • Academic Support Program personnel complete the PMP with identification of ASP activities, materials and assessments.
    • While services are being provided, the classroom/ASP teachers are responsible for students PMP.
    • Evaluations of progress will be indicated by ASP staff through documentation on the PMP.
  • The instructional format in ASP will include but not limited to:
    • Tutoring in specific areas of reading, mathematics and/or science (study hall or time out rooms are not acceptable), as identified on the PMP.
    • Tutoring using alternative programs and materials, providing the specific academic support is needed by the student, as identified on the PMP.
